Katie & Edwin

The inspiration for this design comes from Rae’s (Strong Bones Farm) affinity towards contrasting ideas: rough vs. delicate, glamorous vs. simple, traditional vs. eccentric. She is a skull collector and has always envisioned incorporating bones into her floral designs, as it falls into her aesthetic of taking conventional elements and adding wild, foraged materials. This contrast was not only expressed through her floral arrangements, but the entirety of the shoot: A sparkling dress amongst bare trees, dark color schemes against light snow, and pewter plates topped with a delicate turkey feather.

Katie and Edwin have been together since 2016. They met in Silvergate, MT while Katie was there for the summer doing research with a graduate student. Katie finished out he time at Clemson the following year, during which they maintained a long distance relationship. After surviving a year apart, the couple moved to Boston together where Ed was finishing up his law degree. He proposed to her in November of 2018 and planned for a wedding in the summer of 2020 back in Montana where they met. Due to the pandemic, their wedding was postponed. We asked Katie and Ed to help us with this shoot because, like many other couples, they had been experiencing so much stress and disappointment around their wedding planning; we wanted to give them a day to still celebrate their love in the midst of ongoing uncertainty.
